FIRST-HALF RUN PROPELS WAVERLY JV TO 56-26 ROUT OF DRYDEN

WAVERLY — Waverly used a 23-2 first-half run to take control en route to a 56-26 rout of Dryden here Friday evening in IAC junior varsity girls basketball action.

Dryden scored the game’s first bucket just 34 seconds into the contest, but only scored one more basket over the next 11 1/2 minutes. In the interim, Waverly outscored them 23-2 — fueled by six points from  Paige Robinson, five by Peyton Shaw, and four apiece by Ashlen Croft and Addison Westbrook — to take a 23-4 lead.

After a Dryden 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to 23-7, Waverly closed out the half with a 9-0 spurt to take a 32-7 lead into the halftime break.

Robinson led Waverly with 24 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Shaw scored 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Westbrook and Croft added eight points apiece.

Waverly returns to action Friday at Whitney Point.
