ATANASOFF ADVANCES TO FINALS IN 50 AND 100 FREESTYLE SPRINTS

LONG ISLAND — Waverly senior Mike Atanasoff advanced to Saturday’s
finals in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle sprints, while senior
diver Gage Streeter saw his career come to an end here Friday in Day 1
of the New York State swimming & diving championships here at the
Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Atanasoff posted the sixth fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 21.39 seconds, and will swim in the championship finals on Saturday. He had the third-fastest times among public school competitors.
Atanasoff will swim in the consolation finals of the 100-yard freestyle. He finished 11th in a time of 47.12 seconds.
Atanasoff is the school-record holder in the 50 free in 21.29 seconds, and the 100 free in 46.97 seconds.
Streeter, who broke the school record in a second-place finish at the Section IV meet, finished 47th in the 1-meter diving competition with a five-dive score of 151.7 points.
