THE VALLEY — The 2020 Section IV football divisional alignments and
schedules have finally been released, with Waverly getting what appears
to be a favorable division draw, but opening the season with
back-to-back games against defending state champions, while Tioga is
joined in its division by arch-rival Newark Valley.
With an adjustment in state classification numbers for the 2020 season, Waverly, Chenango Forks, Chenango Valley, Norwich, and Oneonta will drop from Class B to Class C, while Newark Valley, Sidney, and Harpursville / Afton will drop to Class D.
Class C and Class D — both broken into two division — will play an eight-game regular-season schedule with the top two teams in each division advancing to a two-week playoff.
The 8-man ranks also continues to swell. Greene and Moravia drop from Class D to the 8-man division to bring its total to nine teams.
Waverly opens the season at home against defending Class C state champion Susquehanna Valley, then travels to defending Class B state champion Chenango Forks in Week 2.
The Wolverines will play divisional games at home against Dryden and SVEC, and divisional road games against O-M / Watkins Glen, and Whitney Point.
Waverly’s other non-divisional games will be at home against Windsor, and on the road against Class B Owego.
