
SECTION IV FOOTBALL: NEW DIVISIONAL ALIGNMENTS, 2020 SCHEDULES RELEASED

THE VALLEY — The 2020 Section IV football divisional alignments and
schedules have finally been released, with Waverly getting what appears
to be a favorable division draw, but opening the season with
back-to-back games against defending state champions, while Tioga is
joined in its division by arch-rival Newark Valley.
With an
adjustment in state classification numbers for the 2020 season, Waverly,
Chenango Forks, Chenango Valley, Norwich, and Oneonta will drop from
Class B to Class C, while Newark Valley, Sidney, and Harpursville /
Afton will drop to Class D.
Class C and Class D — both broken
into two division — will play an eight-game regular-season schedule with
the top two teams in each division advancing to a two-week playoff.
The
8-man ranks also continues to swell. Greene and Moravia drop from Class
D to the 8-man division to bring its total to nine teams.
CLASS C
Waverly
opens the season at home against defending Class C state champion
Susquehanna Valley, then travels to defending Class B state champion
Chenango Forks in Week 2.
The Wolverines will play divisional
games at home against Dryden and SVEC, and divisional road games against
O-M / Watkins Glen, and Whitney Point.
Waverly’s other non-divisional games will be at home against Windsor, and on the road against Class B Owego.

CLASS D
The
big news is Newark Valley dropping to Class D, and into the same
division with Tioga. They will be joined in Division VI by
Bainbridge-Guilford, Groton, and Harpursville-Afton.
Tioga will open the 2020 season at home against Delhi in a rematch of the 2019 Section IV, Class D championship game.
Tioga’s
home divisional game are against Harpursville-Afton and B-G in the
season finale, while its divisional road games are at Groton and Newark
Valley.
The Tigers’ other non-divisional home game is against
Sidney, while they will play non-divisional roes Deposit-Hancock, and
Walton on the road.
