SHAW LEADS WAVERLY JV TO 61-52 WIN OVER WHITNEY POINT

WHITNEY POINT — Peyton Shaw led four Waverly players in double-figures, and the junior Lady Wolverines made 27 free throws in a 61-52 win over Whitney Point here Friday evening in IAC Large School junior varsity girls basketball action.

Shaw scored six points in the first quarter, while Addison Westbrook added five points, and Paige Robinson had three points. All three made 3-pointers to help Waverly to a 17-14 lead after the first eight minutes.

Shaw scored eight points in the second quarter to fuel a 14-11 spurt that pushed the Lady Wolverines’ lead to 31-25 at the half.

Whitney Point sliced one point the deficit, and trailed 45-40 heading into the final eight minutes.

Robinson and Shaw both made 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter, then Waverly made made 10 of 16 free-throw attempts in the final four minutes of the game to secure the win.

Shaw pumped in 25 points to lead Waverly, while Robinson scored 12 points, and Westbrook and Ashlen Croft added 11 points apiece.

Waverly, now 11-1, travels to Newark Valley Tuesday to play for a share of the top spot in the division.
