SHAW SPARKS WAVERLY JV IN 49-34 WIN OVER EDISON

ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Peyton Shaw sparked a third-quarter blitz to help Waverly pull away for a 49-34 win over Thomas A. Edison here Saturday morning in IAC Large School Division junior varsity girls basketball action.
Addison Westbrook scored six points in the first quarter, while Ashlen Croft had four, and Shaw drained a 3-pointer to help the Lady Wolverines to a 14-9 lead after the first eight minutes.
Shaw knocked down another 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, and Westbrook canned a 3-pointer, but Edison outscored Waverly 11-9 to trim the deficit to 23-20 at the half.
Shaw poured in 13 points in the third quarter, and Westbrook added five points, including a 3-pointer, to fuel an 18-blitz that pushed Waverly’s lead to 41-27 heading into the final eight minutes.
Shaw led Waverly with 25 points, while Westbrook scored 16, and Croft added six.
Waverly, now 14-2, hosts Hornell Tuesday.
