WAVERLY JV PULLS OUT 40-30 WIN OVER ELMIRA; FINISHES SEASON AT 17-2

WAVERLY — Waverly built an 11-point halftime advantage, then needed a big fourth-quarter run to top Elmira, 40-30, here Friday evening in non-league junior varsity girls basketball action.

Addison Westbrook scored all six of her points, including a 3-pointer, in the first quarter, Paige Robinson added four points, and Peyton Shaw knocked down a 3-pointer to help Waverly to a 13-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Waverly used an 8-6 advantage in the second quarter to take a 21-10 lead into the halftime locker room, but the junior Express outscore the junior Lady Wolverines, 15-4, in the third quarter to send the game into the final eight minutes tied at 25-25.

In the fourth quarter, Shaw scored 10 points, including a 3-pointer, to fuel a 15-5 blitz to pull out the win for Waverly.

Shaw led Waverly with 15 points, while Robinson scored seven, Westbrook and Michaela Lauper added six points apiece, and Ashlen Croft chipped in with four.

Waverly finishes its season with a 17-2 record.
