WAVERLY JV ROLL TO 89-60 WIN OVER NOTRE DAME TO CLINCH DIVISION TITLE

SOUTHPORT, N.Y. — Waverly’s offense was in high gear, racing out to a 19-point halftime lead en route to an 89-60 win over Notre Dame here Friday evening in IAC South Large School Division junior varsity boys basketball action.
With the win, the junior Wolverines clinch their sixth division title in eight years.
Liam Traub caned a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the first quarter, and Brennan Traub connected on a 3-pointer among his seven points, while Davis Croft and Brady Blauvelt added four points apiece in Waverly’s 25-14 blitz in the opening eight minutes.
Brennan Traub banged home a pair of 3-pointers, and scored eight points in the second quarter, while Nalen Carling scored seven points, including a trey, Brady Blauvelt added five points, including an old-fashioned three-point play, and Croft knocked down a 3-pointer in a 23-15 run that gave the junior Wolverines a 48-29 lead at the half.
Croft scored nine points, including a 3-pointer, and Liam Traub added six points on a 3-pointer and a conventional three-point play, in a 19-11 run that upped the lead to 67-40 heading into the final eight minutes.
Seven different Wolverines scored in the fourth quarter, including Isaiah Bretz, Landon McCarty, and Liam Traub, who each buried a 3-pointer.
Brennan Traub led Waverly with 21 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and three rebounds, while Liam Traub had 17 points, including four of Waverly’s 12 3-pointers, five rebounds, and three assists, and Croft had 16 points, including two 3-pointers, and eight rebounds.
Carling had nine points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the win, while Blauvelt scored nine points, Isaiah Bretz added five points, Declan Murphy chipped in with four points and four rebounds, and Thomas Hand doled out four assists and had two steals.
Eric Bukowinski led Notre Dame with 21 points.
Waverly returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Watkins Glen.
