WAVERLY JVs BLOW GAME OPEN IN SECOND HALF; TOPS S-VE, 70-37

SPENCER — Waverly built a 12-point halftime lead, then blew the game wide open in the second half in a 70-37 win over S-VE here Tuesday evening in IAC junior varsity boys basketball action.
Brennan Traub knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the first quarter, while Davis Croft scored seven points, and Nalen Carling added five points to help Waverly to a 22-15 lead after the first eight minutes.
Aidan Swayze scored nine points, including a 3-pointer, to keep S-VE in the game.
Carling scored six points in the second quarter, and Brennan Traub added five, including his third 3-pointer, as Waverly stretched its lead to 39-27 at the half.
Croft scored eight points in the third quarter, and six of his teammate also put their names in the scoring column in a 21-6 blitz that gave the junior Wolverines a 60-33 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Carling led Waverly with 16 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, while Croft scored 15 points, and Brennan Traub had 15 points, three rebounds, and three steals.
Blauvelt added five points in the win, while Isaiah Bretz scored four points, Thomas Hand had four points and four steals, Nate DeLill and Liam Traub grabbed four rebounds apiece, and Jay Piper recorded seven steals.
Swayze led S-VE with 17 points and Logan Jewell added 10 points.
Waverly travels to Dryden Thursday night.
