
EDISON SWEEPS WAVERLY

ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Thomas A. Edison handed Waverly its first loss of the
season, a 5-0 sweep, here Wednesday afternoon in IAC tennis action.
The Spartans won the first three singles matches handily.
Nate
Arnsberg topped Waverly’s Collin Keefer 6-2 and 6-1 in the first
singles match, while Maren Lutz beat Preston Tompkins in straight sets
62- and 6-3, and Ben Doalnd won the third singles over Madelin Goodwin
in straight sets 6-2 and 6-0.
In the fourth singles match,
Waverly’s Sheldon Huddleston dropped a hard fought 7-6 first set to
Cyrus Albertalli, losing 7-5 in the tiebreaker. Albertalli finished off
the straight set win with a 7-5 decision in the second set.
James
Heraghty and Abe Johnson finished off the sweep for the Spartans with a
6-4, 6-3 win over Rachel Shambo and Ashlen Croft in the lone doubles
match.
Waverly, now 3-1, returns to action Monday when it hosts Watkins Glen.
