SIDNEY TOMASSO'S 42 TIES SCHOOL RECORD IN WAVERLY'S 71-48 WIN OVER OWEGO

OWEGO — Senior Sidney Tomasso poured in 42 points, including 24 in the
third quarter, to tie the school record in Waverly’s 71-48 win over
Owego here Thursday night in IAC Tioga County Division girls basketball
action.
She tied the record set in the 1993-94 season by Becky Baker.
Tomasso,
who entered the night averaging 22.8 points per game, scored just six
points in the first quarter, helping Waverly to a 12-8 lead after the
first eight minutes.
Tomasso scored 10 points, including a pair
of 3-pointers, in the second quarter, and senior Gabby Picco drained a
trio of 3-pointers in a 22-10 run that pushed the Lady Wolverine
advantage to 34-18 at the halftime intermission.
Tomasso, who
scored the last seven points of the first half, pumped in the first 10
points of the third quarter for the Lady Wolverines on her way to 24
points in a 28-12 blitz that extended the lead to 62-30 entering the
final eight minutes.
She tied the school record with a pair of free throws in the opening moments of the fourth quarter.
Picco, who canned four 3-pointers, and sophomore Kennedy Westbrook added 12 points apiece in the win.
Maggie Huizinga and Evee Coleman led Owego with 16 points apiece.
Waverly, now 11-1, closes out the 2021 campaign at home Saturday against Elmira.
