WAVERLY PULLS OUT 3-2 WIN OVER SOUTHERN CAYUGA; SWEEPS UNION SPRINGS

WAVERLY — After splitting the four singles matches, Waverly won the lone doubles match to pull out a 3-2 win over Southern Cayuga here Tuesday afternoon in IAC tennis action.

Collin Keefer topped Southern Cayuga’s Mary Kate Vitale, 6-1 and 6-3 in the first singles match, Waver’s second and third singles players — Preston Tompkins and Madelin Goodwin — each lost three-set matches..

Tompkins dropped a three-set decision to Colby Sellen by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 1-6, and Goodwin lost to Louis Hasenjager, 3-6, 6-2, and 4-6.

Sheldon Huddleston evened the match for the Wolverines, beating Emma Gentry, 6-0 and 6-1 in the fourth singles match.

Ashlen Croft and Rachel Shambo teamed to win the double match by scores of 6-1 and 6-4 over Circe Perez and Beverly Perez to lift the Wolverines to the win.

Waverly 5, Union Springs 0
Waverly swept Union Springs, 5-0, winning all five matches in straight sets on May 11.

Collin Keefer downed Ryan Huber, 6-2 and 6-1 in the first singles match, while Preston Tompkins edged Collin Park, 6-4 and 7-5 in the second singles match-up.

Madelin Good topped Madison Gannon 6-1 and 6-3 in the third singles, and Sheldon Huddleston beat George Fearon 6-4 and 6-1 in fourth singles action.

In the lone doubles match, Ashlen Croft and Rachel Shambo beat Jenna Clark and Reagan Lawton 6-3 and 6-1.

Waverly, now 3-0, hosts Watkins Glen Monday.
