WAVERLY — It’s become a familiar for success in 2021 for the Waverly
tennis team: split the four singles matches, and win the lone doubles
match.
The Wolverines are 4-1 on the season, and three of the
four victories, including Monday’s win over Watkins Glen, have been by
the score of 3-2, with the team of Ashlen Croft and Rachel Shambo
providing the difference in the doubles match.
On Monday, Collin
Keefer and Preston Tompkins lost in straight sets to the Senecas top two
players. Keefer lost 6-1, 6-0 to Dylan Morse, and Tompkins was blacked
6-0, 6-0 by Tim Clifford.
Madelin Goodwin won a hard-fought third singles match, outlasting Noah Gardner in a 7-6 (8-6 in tiebreaker) and 6-4.
Josie VanDyke evened the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sydney Brubaker.
Croft and Shambo, who are 4-1 on the season, topped Alannah Klemann and Faye Mooney 6-1, 4-6, and 6-2.
Waverly returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Notre Dame.
