ENDICOTT — Waverly sophomore Micah Chandler is on the precipice of
qualifying for the New York State Division 2 Boys Track & Field
Championships after his performance on a rain-shortened Day 1 of the
Section IV State Qualifier here Wednesday afternoon.
Severe
thunderstorms rolled through the region, and cut short the day’s track
events, and forced the stoppage of field events that will be completed
Thursday.
Chandler ran the fastest time in the fast heat of the
400-meter hurdles, clipping the tape at 58.21 seconds. The finals two
heats will be run on Thursday.
If his time holds as the fastest, he will qualify for States.
“It feels absolutely amazing,” said Chandler. “I am so excited. I’ve been wanting this since freshman year.”
Waverly
junior Kayleb Bechy qualified for Thursday’s 100-meter dash finals with
the second-fastest time — 11.32 seconds — in the preliminaries.
Action resumes Thursday at 5 p.m.
