
FAST START CARRIES WAVERLY TO 62-33 WIN OVER WATKINS GLEN

WATKINS GLEN — Waverly raced out to a 22-point halftime lead on its way
to a 62-33 win over Watkins Glen here Monday night in IAC South Large
School junior varsity boys basketball action.
Bryce LaForest and
Jake VanHouten scored six points apiece in the first quarter to help
Waverly to a 14-6 lead after the first seven minutes.
LaForest
added six more points in the second quarter, while Jon Searles and
VanHouten added four points apiece, and Thomas Morley and Ben Shaw
connected on 3-pointers to fuel a 20-6 blitz that gave the junior
Wolverines a 34-12 lead at the halftime intermission.
VanHouten
scored six more points, and Morley knocked down another 3-pointer as
Waverly used an 11-6 spurt to take a 45-20 lead in the final seven
minutes.
VanHouten led Waverly with 20 points, including a pair
of 3-pointers, nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots, while
LaForest scored 14 points, and Searles had eight points and four
boards.
Shaw added eight points, including two 3-pointers, and
six rebounds in the win, while Morley chipped in with six points, Carter
George contributed seven rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one
blocked shot, and Alex Burgess grabbed three rebounds.
Sam Caslin led Watkins Glen with 14 points, and Chris Simiele added 13 points.
Waverly returns to action tonight against Thomas A. Edison.
