FIRST-QUARTER BLITZ PROPELS WAVERLY JV TO 69-30 WIN OVER EDISON

ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Waverly raced out to a 24-point first-quarter lead, and
rolled to a 69-30 win over Edison here Monday night in IAC South Large
School junior varsity boys action.
Bryce LaForest drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the first eight minutes, while Jake VanHouten and Thomas Morley, who knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, scored seven points apiece to fuel a 26-2 blitz.
VanHouten scored six more points in the second quarter in a 14-6 run that gave the junior Wolverines a 40-8 lead at the half.
Nehemiah Anthony scored six points in the third quarter, and Carter George added four as Waverly added to its lead with a 17-11 spurt, carrying a 57-19 lead into the final eight minutes.
LaForest led Waverly with 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and four steals while VanHouten had 15 points and nine rebounds, Anthony had 10 points, four assists, and three steals, and Morley had seven points and three rebounds.
Carter had six points and three steals in the win, while Nick Mattison added five points, Alex Burgess chipped in with four points and 10 rebounds, Jon Searles hauled down 10 rebounds, and Ben Shaw grabbed three boards.
Waverly hosts Newark Valley Wednesday.
