SOUTHPORT, N.Y. — Notre Dame pulled out a hard-fought, 3-2, win over Waverly here Tuesday afternoon in IAC tennis action.

Three of the five matches went to a third set, and a fourth featured 22 games in two sets.

Notre Dame’s Alexandra Meier cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Waverly’s Wayne Allen in first singles, but the remaining matches were eighthly-contested.

In the second singles match, Waverly’s Griff Schillmoeller won the first set 7-6, with a 7-0 win in the tiebreaker, but Notre Dame’s Rachel Tsang rallied with wins of 6-1 and 7-5.

Waverly’s Ashlen Croft won the third singles, topping Kate Welliver, 7-5, 2-6, and 6-2.

In first doubles action, Waverly’s Abigail Blauvelt and Hayden Larson won the first set 7-5, but Notre Dame’s Ella Chicone and Jade Nordin rallied to win the next two sets 6-3 and 6-3.

Waverly’s second doubles duo of Paxton Grover and Megan Heath pulled out a 6-4, 7-5 win over Divye Agrawal and Emmalie Barkley.

Waverly returns to action Thursday at Union Springs.
