
WAVERLY BLOWS OPEN CLOSE GAME IN FOURTH QUARTER; TOPS EDISON, 50-3

ELMIRA HEIGHTS — After a back-and-forth first half, Waverly took the
lead for good in the third quarter, then blew the game open in the final
eight minutes of a 50-33 win over Thomas A. Edison here Wednesday night
in IAC South Large School Division boys basketball action.
Junior
Kennedy Westbrook scored nine points in the first quarter, and senior
Olivia Nittinger knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored seven
points to help Waverly to an 18-13 lead after the first eight minutes.
Gianna
McGee canned a pair of 3-pointers to spark Edison in a 13-6
second-quarter run that gave the Lady Spartans a 26-24 lead at the
halftime intermission.
Kennedy Westbrook pumped in 11 points in
the third quarter to fuel a 12-6 run that gave the Lady Wolverines a
36-32 heading into the final eight minutes.
Kennedy Westbrook
buried two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and freshman Addison
Westbrook added a trey in a 14-1 game-closing blitz that put the game
away for the Lady Wolverines.
Kennedy Westbrook led Waverly with
28 points, including four 3-pointers, while sophomore Peyton Shaw scored
nine points, and Nittinger added seven points.
Payton Littlefield led Edison with 11 points, and McGee added nine points.
Waverly, now 13-5, returns to action Friday at Vestal.
