WAVERLY FALLS IN SEMIS; FINISHES THIRD AT JOHNSON CITY TOURNEY

JOHNSON CITY — Waverly went unbeaten in pool play, but bowed out in the semifinals, finishing third in the 16-team field here Saturday at the Johnson City Volleyball Tournament.

Waverly swept Johnson City, Moravia and Chenango to finis 6-0 in pool play, but came up short against unbeaten Lansing in the semifinals.

I thought the girls played well, just seemed a bit tired after our away game (Friday) night,” said Waverly coach Charity Meyers.

Junior Peyton Shaw led Waverly with 18 points, including seven aces, and nine kills, while senior Michaela Lauper 17 points (four aces), 27 setter assists and 15 digs, and sophomore  Lillie Kirk had 12 points (two aces), eight kills with eight digs.

Junior Ashlen Croft had 12 points (four aces), and five kills for the Lady Wolverines, while junior Erica Ryck had eight points (four aces), 16 kills one block, and 10 digs, freshman Brilynn Belles had eight points (two aces), eight assists with eight digs, and sophomore Maddie Olmsted had seven points, five kills and five digs.

Waverly travels to Candor Monday, and hosts Watkins Glen to complete the regular season.
