
WAVERLY HOLDS OFF VESTAL, 57-5

VESTAL — Freshman Addison Westbrook and junior Kennedy Westbrook
combined for 42 points, and Waverly held off a second-half comeback to
top Vestal, 57-51, here Friday night in non-league girls basketball
action.
Kennedy Westbrook scored nine points in the first
quarter, and 7th-grader Ryleigh Judson knocked down a 3-pointer as
Waverly jumped out to a 16-11 lead after the first eight minutes.
Addison
Westbrook scored 10 points in the second quarter, and sophomore Peyton
Shaw connected on a 3-pointer in a 17-9 run that extended the Lady
Wolverines’ lead to 13 points, at 33-20.
The Lady Golden Bears
nearly wiped out all of its deficit, outscoring Waverly to close the gap
to 37-35 entering the final eight minutes.
Addison Westbrook
knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points early in the
fourth quarter, then she made 4 of 5 free throws, while Kennedy
Westbrook was 5-for-5 from the line as Waverly made 10 of 12 from the
charity stripe in the final stanza to preserve the win.
Addison
Westbrook pumped in 24 points, and Kennedy Westbrook scored 18 points in
the win, and sophomore Paige Robinson added five points.
Olivia Muse led Vestal with 18 points, while Carmella DiRenzo scored 14, and Faith Carty added 11.
Waverly, now 14-5, closes out the regular season Monday at Watkins Glen.
