WAVERLY ROLLS TO 66-33 WIN OVER EDISON

WAVERLY — Waverly ran out to a big halftime lead, and cruised to a 66-33
win over Thomas A. Edison here Tuesday night in IAC South Large School
Division junior varsity boys basketball action.
The junior Wolverines, who clinched the division title last week, improve to 14-4 on the season, including an 11-1 mark in league play.
Bryce LaForest scored four points, Carter George canned a 3-pointer, and four other Waverly players put their names in the scoring column in a 16-8 game-opening run.
LaForest scored nine points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter, while George and Jake VanHouten added four points apiece to fuel a 23-6 blitz that gave Waverly a 39-14 lead at the half.
VanHouten pumped in 10 points in the third quarter, while LaForest scored four points, and Lincoln Sharpsteen connected on a 3-pointer in an 18-6 run that extended the Waverly advantage to 57-20 entering the final eight minutes.
LaForest led Waverly with 19 points, three rebounds, and seven steals, while VanHouten, who has 7-for-8 at the free throw line, had 17 points and five rebounds, and Sharpsteen scored eight points.
George had seven points, three rebounds, and three assists in the win, while Jon Searles added five points and six rebounds, Nick Mattison chipped in with four points and four steals, and Alex Burgess pulled down four rebounds.
Waverly hosts Chenango Forks Friday.
