ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Waverly took the lead early, and gradually pulled away in a 42-29 win over Thomas A. Edison here Wednesday evening in IAC South Large School Division junior varsity girls basketball action.

Ryleigh Judson knocked down a 3-pointer and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line for six points in the first quarter to help Waverly to a 10-6 lead.

Judson canned another 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, and Madelyn Olmsted added four points as the Lady Wolverines used an 11-7 spurt to take a 21-13 lead into the halftime locker room.

Cheyenne Dorsey scored five points, including an old-fashioned three-point play, while Brilynn Belles scored four points, and Judson connected on another 3-pointer to fuel a 16-8 run to up its advantage to 37-21 heading into the final eight minutes.

Judson led Waverly with 18 points, and four 3-pointers, while Olmsted and Dorsey scored seven points apiece, and Belles added six points.

Waverly, now 11-7, returns to action Friday at Vestal.
