WILLIAMSPORT HANDS WAVERLY JVs FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

WILLIAMSPORT — Williamsport blew open a tie game late, and handed Waverly its first loss of the season — an 11-2 setback here Tuesday afternoon in non-league junior varsity baseball action.

The Class 6A junior Millionaires scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, and held a 2-0 lead after four innings.

Jake VanHouten stroked a one-out single in the top of the fifth inning, and Charlie Larrabee was hit by a pitch with two outs. Both runners scored moments later on an two-run single by Ben Shaw to tie the game at 2-2.

Williamsport answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, and put the game away with six runs in the sixth inning.

Shaw singled twice and drove in two runs to lead Waverly at the plate, while VanHouten singled and scored, Carter George added a single, and Larrabee scored a run.

Bubniak was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking two in 4 2/3 innings.

Waverly, now 7-1, returns to action Friday when it hosts Trumansburg.
