BINGHAMTON — Led by 285-pound champ, sophomore Kam Hills, Waverly qualified five wrestlers to the New York State Division 2 Championships — its largest contingent since 2009 — and placed second in the team standings here Saturday at the Section IV, Division 2 Championships at the Broome County Arena.

WAVERLY — The Waverly girls won the season-ending IAC League Championships Saturday, while the Waverly boys finished third in bowling action here at the Valley Bowling Center.

WATKINS GLEN — The foursome of seniors Jerrell Sackett, Ryan Clark, and Oscar Williams, and junior Liam Wright teamed to win all three relays, setting a new pool and meet record in the 200-yard free relay, to lead Waverly’s efforts here Saturday afternoon at the IAC Swimming Championships.

BINGHAMTON — Waverly had six girls reach the podium, including a trio of runner-up finishers in junior Lily Sickler, senior Mackenzie LaForest, and 8th-grader Abby Sickler, in a second-place finish here at the Section IV Girls Wrestling Championships Saturday at the Broome County Arena.

WAVERLY — Waverly opened the game with a 34-1 first-quarter blitz, and cruised to an 86-29 win over S-VE here Friday night in IAC South girls basketball action.

Valley Sports Report ITHACA — Senior Kayleb Bechy and junior Micah Chandler were double-winners to lead the Waverly boys to a second-place finish in Division 2 of the Section IV Indoor Track & Field Championships, while the Lady Wolverines finished sixth.

VERONA, N.Y. — Record-breaking Waverly junior Joey Tomasso was named the New York State High School Football Coaches Association Class C “Player of the Year” here Friday night in a ceremony during the annual coaches association meeting at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino.

SIDNEY, N.Y. — Waverly crowned three champs, and advanced eight wrestlers from the Section IV, Qualifier B here Saturday to the Division 2 Championships next weekend at the Broome County Arena.
