FIRST-QUARTER BLITZ PROPELS WAVERLY TO 86-29 WIN OVER S-VE

WAVERLY — Waverly opened the game with a 34-1 first-quarter blitz, and cruised to an 86-29 win over S-VE here Friday night in IAC South girls basketball action.

Sophomore Addison Westbrook scored eight points, including six of Waverly’s 14 made free throws in the first quarter, while junior Page Robinson knocked down a 3-pointer and made three free throws after being fouled behind the arc, and senior Kennedy Westbrook and junior Peyton Shaw each added five points as the Lady Wolverines race out to a 33-point lead after the first eight minutes.

Addison Westbrook added eight points in the second quarter, while Shaw had seven, including her second 3-pointer, and 8th-grader Ryleigh Judson made her second 3-pointer of the game to fuel a 22-8 run that put Waverly up  58-9 at the halftime intermission.

Kennedy Westbrook and Shaw each scored five points in the third quarter, and Judson connected on another 3-pointer as Waverly added five points to its lead, and entered the fourth quarter up 71-17.

Addison Westbrook led five Lady Wolverines in double-figures with 19 points, while Shaw scored 17, including a pair of 3-pointers, Kennedy Westbrook had 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, Judson added 12 points on four 3-pointers, and Robinson chipped in with 11 points.

Senior Alyvia Daddona, and freshman Brilynn Belles had four points apiece in the win.

Faith Brenchley led S-VE with nine points.

Waverly wraps up the regular season with a 15-4 record. Its game against Horseheads Monday has been canceled.

S-VE will face O-M Monday in a playoff for the IAC South Small School title.
