
WAVERLY RACKS UP PINS IN 70-6 WIN OVER DRYDEN

WAVERLY — Waverly won all nine contested weight classes — eight of them
by fall — in a 70-6 win over Dryden here Wednesday night in IAC Large
School wrestling action.
After a Dryden forfeit to 7th-grader
Drayton DeKay at 102 pounds, 8th-grader Caden Bradley brought the
Waverly Parents’ Night crowd to its feet with a pin of Wyatt Curtis in
1:49.
The Purple Lions put their only points of the night on the board at 118 pounds with a forfeit to Oscar Brotherton at 118 pounds.
The rest of the night belonged to the Wolverines.
Sophomore
Jake Besecker started a 10-bout win streak with a 10-2 major decision
over Christopher Green at 126 pounds, and senior Mason Ham ignited a
string of pins with first-period fall over Paul Best Jr. at 132 pounds.
Junior
Braeden Nichols decked Dean Belden in 2:58 at 138 pounds, and senior
Connor Stotler pinned Nicholas Bieber in 2:32 at 152 pounds.
The Wolverines received forfeits to 8th-grader Parker Larson at 145 pounds, and senior Braeden Hills at 160.
At
172 pounds, sophomore Nate Peters scored the fastest fall of the night,
pinning Aaron Keem in 55 seconds, and 8th-grader Matthias Welles decked
Hunter Covington in 2:46.
Senior Ty Beeman continued his winning
ways at 215 pounds with a pin of Aaron Thomason in 1:24. Beeman
improves to 18-2 on the season.
Sophomore Kam Hills finished
things off with a pin of Dryden’s Kaydin Hinckley, who entered the bout
at 13-3 on the season, in 74 seconds.
Waverly, now 9-3, will return to action this weekend at the inaugural Southern Tier Memorial at The First Arena in Elmira.
