ATHENS — After pitching seven inning in a win over Tioga earlier in the day, Athens freshman Savanah Persun told her coach she “wanted the ball” again against Waverly here Saturday afternoon in the nightcap of the “Battle at the Border.”
SAYRE — Waverly plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning in a come-from-behind, 9-6, win over Sayre here Saturday morning in the opening game of the softball “Battle at the Border.”
CANDOR —Senior Bella Romano hit her first career home run, and junior Michaela Lauper registered a career high in strikeouts in leading Waverly to a 12-7 win over Candor here Friday afternoon in IAC softball action.
WAVERLY — Sophomore Peyton Shaw and junior Michaela Lauper powered the offense, and freshman Brinn Cooney and sophomore Olivia Robinson combined on a five-hitter to lead Waverly to an 18-1 five-inning win over Odessa-Montour here Tuesday afternoon in IAC softball action.
NEWFIELD — Senior Bella Romano belted three inside-the-park home runs, and freshman Brinn Cooney recorded a victory in her pitching debut in Waverly’s 17-1 win over Newfield here Friday afternoon in IAC softball action.
SOUTHPORT — Notre Dame scored six runs in the home half of the third inning, and cruised to a 10-2 win over Waverly here Thursday afternoon in IAC South Large School Division softball action.
WAVERLY — Division-leading Notre Dame scored five runs in the top of the third and fourth innings en route to an 11-3 win over Waverly here Tuesday afternoon in IAC South Large School softball action.
JOHNSON CITY — Waverly played a pair of non-league softball games here Saturday afternoon, dropping a 9-0 decision to Windsor, and a 10-8 decision to Johnson City.
SPENCER — Waverly jumped out in front early, but unbeaten Spencer-VanEtten rallied for a 9-5 win here Thursday afternoon in IAC South softball action.
WAVERLY — Waverly erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning, and cruised to a 19-1 five-inning win over Watkins Glen in IAC South Large School Division softball action on a cold Wednesday afternoon.
TIOGA CENTER — Senior Austyn Vance scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Tioga the lead for good in a wild, 13-12, win over Waverly here Monday afternoon in IAC softball action.
WAVERLY — Waverly landed two players on the IAC South Large School Divisional all-star team, and three more on the honorable mention list in recent voting by the division’s coaches.
WINDSOR — Second-seeded Windsor scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, and that was all it needed, although the Lady Knights added three runs late in the game for a 4-0 win over Waverly here Monday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class B playoffs.
WAVERLY — Heading into the weekend, it appeared the Waverly softball team would need a victory to qualify for the Section IV Class B tournament.
